Our first exiciting debates...

Having experienced this activity, what is important to mention is that, although, it is our first time debating: we did our best and it was an exciting moment for us. The first debate, "Other Professionals as teachers", was thoroughly well prepared because they really presented very good arguments which actually sounded very convincing. They certainly thought about every single detail and brought forwards the counter arguments; presenting very straight and catchy questions to the audience. On the other hand, the group against the measure was a bit insecure about what they were defending. Sometimes their anxiety was very obvious, what helped the other group felt more confident with themselves and their topic. Even when, both groups had a different style to present their arguments, I felt that the one against the measure did not seem to be as prepared as the one in favor (in terms of considering all the possible counter arguments and preparing good questions).
In the second debate about “Voluntary Vote and Automatic Registration” something about groups’ organization did not work, but they knew how to overcome the mistake. However, there was a lack of facts and statistics which made this debate weaker than the first one. In terms of their attitude the seemed to be nervous and anxious what meant that some of them were not clear to present their arguments.
Finally, regarding the first topic in discussion I think that the group in favor was the winner because of the way they defended and presented their arguments. On the other hand, the second debate did not completely finished (something was missing) so that I could not say who won.
Note: If you ask me… there were a lot of things I would like to add to defend my topic (things that were prepared I could not say them because of the time)…

  1. It is true that for being our first debate we did a good job. However, I do not agree with you about that our group was not well prepared as yours. We did a deep investigation and we showed that in our presentation. For that reason, we could answer most of their question and they were supported not only with our own opinions also with true arguments

  2. I think both groups did well and were well-prepared coming to the debate. Perhaps the "for" group handled the rebuttal better, but everyone expressed their ideas well.

    a correction:
*In* the first debate, "Other Professionals as teachers", was thoroughly well prepared because *the group in favor of the reform* really presented very good arguments which actually sounded very convincing.

  3. Sorry guys...

Maybe my entry sounded a little bit rude but that was not the idea of being honest and expressing what I really felt...

On the other hand I still think that we won...

    And these are my reasons:

Even when the group against the reform had a lot of quotations: experience (our experience)could express exactly what we were defending. We as students have had a lot of teachers who had not taught us values at all, and they did study pedagogy but they have not convinced us to consider them as examples. So that, most of us have learnt from the counter example...

I mean, we have had few teachers who loved us as students more than the love they felt to the power and knoledge they actually had!

    Bye
    Take care =)

  4. I do belive that the first dabate was much better that the second one because it showed most facts and good arguments in order to support their own ideas.
I think that your right when you say that it did not have enough time to discuss more about our topics, I was also dissatisfied .
    Take care!

  5. Dear Anto, I believe both teams did a very good work. Nevertheless,I wonder if the best group is that one which has more facts or has a power point. I really don't think so, Anyway, your team did a clear and well organized information and this is something I can emphasize of your work.
